Edwalton

80 Bedroom Care Home

THE FACTS

Client:

Hamberley Developments | Tomlinsons
PROJECT BRIEF:
80 Bedroom Care Home
Sector:
Healthcare
Site Area:
1.70 acres
Edwalton Manor Care Home features beautifully landscaped gardens with stunning glass balconies and breath-taking views over the surrounding countryside. The Covid-secure Nottinghamshire care home includes 80 luxury en-suite bedrooms, a boutique café, private dining room for resident family celebrations, a bar/activity room, hair salon and nail bar and a library and IT area. There is also an internal visitation room, seven two-room luxury suites and four twin-bedded luxury en-suite bedrooms.

The application site sits between these two developments, however many of the other developments are also of contemporary appearance. This has informed the choice in appearance for the proposal and is also consistent with the progressive ethos of this care home. The asymmetric, mono-pitched roof is arranged such that it wraps around the wings of the care home, creating the welcoming and protecting sense of enclosure referred to in the previous ‘Layout’ section.

The main entrance and three-storey element are flat roofed and provide a pleasing termination for the asymmetric, mono-pitched roofs.

Projecting bays and balcony areas help to break up the façade and clad boxed glazing is reserved for key residents day spaces which form features to the corners of the building.

On the ground and first floor, brick pre-dominates with recessed brickwork to the bays and a horizontal ribbed brick detail to some of the windows. The horizontal, ribbed, brick detail is of contrasting brick which provides additional relief and interest to the building, through the shadows that are cast.

The second floor is stepped back and dressed in horizontal cladding, to make it more subservient to the main facade and also helps to break up the overall mass of the building.

The delivery of Fosse Way View has been the result of the best across-the-board teamwork effort that I have ever experienced, despite the challenges of the pandemic.

Fosse Way View has been beautifully thought out with a lot of attention to details such as the spa bathrooms with the twinkling ceilings, balconies overlooking the gardens and a beautiful bar area in the reception area where people can meet to sit and socialise with their families.
